It’s World Migratory Bird Day!

This year’s campaign is focused on water and its importance for migratory birds. BC is part of the Pacific Flyway and full of aquatic ecosystems that are vital for nesting, feeding, and resting. HCTF is proud to support projects throughout the province that enhance and restore these ecosystems, for the benefit of migratory birds and other wildlife.

📢 The 2023-24 approved project list is now available 📢

HCTF is excited to announce that over $8 million in funding has been approved for fish and wildlife conservation projects this year!

With support from HCTF a wide range of nonprofit organizations, First Nations and Indigenous communities, Provincial ministries, and community groups will implement projects this year that protect B.C.’s wildlife, freshwater fish, and their habitats.

Since 1981, the HCTF has funded over 3,550 projects representing an investment of over $215 million for conservation in B.C.

The Al Martin HCTF Conservation Fellowships are for graduate students wishing to pursue a career in fish or wildlife management and conservation in British Columbia.

Al Martin was a giant in the conservation community and had an influential and lengthy career in fish and wildlife management and habitat conservation. After retiring from a 30-year career in the BC Public Service in 2010, Al actively continued to be a leader in conservation including as a Board member with HCTF. He passionately worked to sustain fish and wildlife habitats and populations for generations to come.

Community Grants (formerly PCAF) provide funding to organizations and individuals who need financial help to implement a conservation project.

Approximately $150,000 is available to help implement on-the-ground conservation work, with a particular focus on hands-on, community-based, and public awareness initiatives.

Preferred Community Grant projects are those that:
• have long-range benefits
• involve as many volunteers as possible
• raise community awareness and involvement in conservation

Have you heard about our ✨new✨ Capacity Grants program?

Organizations often face challenges in identifying and initiating actions to benefit fish, wildlife, and habitat. This is why HCTF is launching our new Capacity Grant program: to provide support and funding for organizations to strengthen their capability and capacity to design and deliver conservation or restoration projects.

In support of HCTF’s strategic plan, capacity grants will emphasize:
• Caribou habitat restoration or conservation projects
• Climate change adaptation and mitigation
• Indigenous community-led fish, wildlife, and habitat restoration and conservation
• Broad and diverse participation in HCTF programs and projects
