☀️ Sssummertime is prime time for BC’s scaly critters! 🦎🐍 As temperatures rise, reptiles like garter snakes, rubber boas, and northern alligator lizards are more active—basking in the sun to regulate their body temperature and hunting for insects and small prey. These often-overlooked species play a big role in keeping ecosystems in balance. Through habitat conservation and community science, we’re helping protect the unique biodiversity of BC—including our scaly neighbours! Remember: If you spot a reptile this summer, observe from a distance, and never remove it from its natural habitat. 🐢 📷 1: Ray Maichin 📷 2: L. The HCTF board and staff took a break from the office for a couple of days at our most recent board meeting! Between some amazing presentations and getting down to business discussing the year ahead, staff and board members were able to go out with some local angling guides to tour the waterways of Harrison! Getting out to learn about the projects we fund is an amazing and incredibly rewarding experience for staff and helps reinforce our passion for helping to make a difference. Thank you to our guides Kevin Estrada, Jay Gibson, Dean Werk, and Rick Stahl ( @sturgeonslayers, @fishingsturgeon ) for taking us out on the water, sharing your knowledge, and bringing us all home safe and sound! Learn more about HCTF funded projects near Harrison on our project map!

☀️ Field days are the best days. ☀️ Whether it's tracking wildlife, restoring habitat, or collecting data deep in BC’s backcountry, there’s nothing better than seeing conservation in action. We’re proud to support dedicated proponents across the province who are working hard—rain or shine—to protect the species and spaces that make BC so special. Every project we fund brings us closer to a future where healthy ecosystems thrive for generations to come. 📷 Project 2-552 #ConservationInAction #FieldDays #WildlifeStewardship #HCTF #GetOutsideBC #BCWildlife #HabitatRestoration #BeautifulBC #ScienceInTheField #ConservationMatters

HCTF recently approved over $560k in funding for 41 conservation stewardship projects throughout B.C. Stewardship projects are those covered under our stewardship umbrella of grants which are our Action, Capacity, and Community Grants! 🌲 Action Grants, which have a two-year term, support projects that directly involve people and communities to change behaviours and/or practices leading to positive and measurable conservation outcomes. 🌲 Capacity Grants also have a two-year term and provide funding to build and strengthen the capability and capacity of organizations to design and deliver conservation or restoration projects successfully. 🌲 Community Grants have up to five years to complete and involve as many volunteers as possible to implement on-the-ground conservation work, with a particular focus on hands-on, community-based, and public awareness initiatives. See the full list of stewardship projects on our website or check out whats happening in your backyard on our project map at: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1y390dNVL8fVsD427r3vvaszNO_jkrrk&ll=54.339463080373804%2C-124.28750695&z=5! 📷 Habitat Restoration in the Garnet Valley - photo by Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship #ConservationBC #HabitatRestoration #StewardshipProjects #ActionGrants #BCNature

From the coastal shores of the Great Bear Rainforest to the dry grasslands of the Okanagan, HCTF is proud to support conservation efforts across British Columbia. 🌿 Each year, we fund hundreds of projects that protect habitat, restore ecosystems, and support wildlife populations—from mountain goats in the Kootenays to burrowing owls in the Interior. Whether it’s: 🔸 Improving habitat for fish 🔸 Monitoring species at risk 🔸 Restoring critical habitat 🔸 Or inspiring the next generation through outdoor education It’s all part of a shared vision: a future where BC’s wildlife thrive for generations to come. 🌲🦌 📍 Want to see where we work? 🍁 Happy Canada Day from HCTF! 🍁 Today, we’re celebrating the incredible landscapes, wildlife, and biodiversity that make Canada so special. From the soaring mountains to the coastal rainforests, the grasslands to the wetlands, Canada is home to some amazing landscapes and habitat! We recognize that the lands we work to protect are the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples who have been stewards of these landscapes since time immemorial. As we reflect on what it means to live in and care for this place we call home, we’re committed to supporting conservation efforts that honour this legacy and help build a more resilient future for all. Let’s celebrate Canada by getting outside, learning from the land, and taking action to protect it. 📷 Alison Etter #CanadaDay #BCWildlife #HabitatConservation #ExploreBC #HCTF

Grasslands might seem quiet—but they’re some of BC’s busiest ecosystems. Burrowing owls, badgers, mule deer, and bighorn sheep all rely on these dry, open habitats. That’s why HCTF funds restoration projects in BC’s Interior, including: Invasive plant removal Prescribed burns Native plant re-seeding and MORE! Check out what we're doing near you on our project map: https://hctf.ca/achievements/project-maps/ #BCGrasslands #HabitatMatters #WildlifeConservation #BCWildlife
