🚨 New Resource Alert for Caribou Habitat Restoration Practitioners! 🚨 We’re excited to share a valuable new video series: Practical Techniques for Effective Site Recovery Produced in collaboration with Chu Cho Environmental, these educational videos are designed to support field teams working on Caribou Habitat Restoration Fund (CHRF) projects across BC. The series covers essential on-the-ground techniques, including: 🌲Tree planting for long-term ecosystem recovery 🌲Incorporating visual screens in road restoration 🌲Soil decompaction and recontouring strategies These practical, field-focused videos share proven methods and best practices to help restoration practitioners accelerate the recovery of disturbed caribou habitat. Thinking about taking up fishing? Why not check out one of the amazing BC Family Fishing Weekend events being hosted by @gofishbc and their partners! Over the weekend (June 13th - 15th) BC waives the requirement for residents of Canada to buy or carry a non-tidal (freshwater) basic fishing licence, giving people the opportunity to try fishing before jumping in the deep end! In addition to waiving this requirement for the weekend, there's tons of events going on across the province to help introduce residents angling. 📢 ANNOUNCING: $230k for Invasive Mussel Monitoring This Summer! 📢 For many folks in British Columbia, the incoming summer weather means endless adventure, time spent outdoors with friends and family, and especially, time spent on B.C.'s stunning freshwater lakes and rivers - however, for a handful of B.C. residents, the summertime signals the beginning of critically important environmental monitoring work to protect the health of treasured waterways. A pair of freshwater mollusks - the zebra and quagga mussels - are known across Canada for wreaking havoc on freshwater systems that have involuntarily come to house them. They grow and multiply astonishingly quickly, consuming much-needed nutrients from the water, clogging and destroying important infrastructure and habitat, and outcompeting freshwater mussels that are native to B.C. This year, HCTF’s Invasive Mussels Monitoring Grant will administer 11 projects for a total of $230,893 in funding! Each monitoring organization will undertake the sampling of several local waterbodies throughout the summer months, when detections are most likely to appear. Together we can help keep our waters clean and healthy!
