INVESTING IN BC CONSERVATION SINCE 1981

Habitat Acquisition Grants provide funding to land trusts, community organizations, and First Nations for the purchase of private properties to protect important habitat for B.C.’s fish and wildlife. Funding for this grant comes from the hunters, anglers, trappers, and guide outfitters of this province whose licence surcharge fees directly support the Habitat Acquisition Grant and many other investments of the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation.

Starting in 2026, Habitat Acquisition Grant priorities are lands that:

    1. Provide public access for fishing, hunting, and other forms of non-motorized outdoor recreation.
    2. Contribute to the conservation of wetland or grassland habitat
    3. Represent large properties that contain important ecological values for a variety of fish and wildlife species, including areas identified for their importance such as ungulate winter range.
    4. Strengthen landscape-level connectivity by linking to nearby and adjacent protected areas, conservation areas or Wildlife Management Areas (WMA).

See our Habitat Acquisitions page for more information on what the program has accomplished thus far.

Intake for applications opens February 15, 2026.
The deadline to apply is April 15, 2026.

Important notice: With significant changes in priorities and eligibility for 2026, applicants are highly encouraged to contact HCTF staff before starting an application.
